Autowatch Ghost and the alarm upgrade range are CAN bus products, so fitment depends on your vehicle's exact platform and model year, not just the badge on the bonnet. Send us your reg before booking and we'll confirm the right model in writing.

Relay attack (keyless entry)
Thieves boost the signal from your fob inside the house to unlock and start your car in seconds. A CAN bus immobiliser stops the engine starting even when the fob's been relayed.
Key cloning
A stolen fob, or one cloned from a service visit, can drive your car straight off the drive. The Ghost / Phantom PIN is needed on top of the key, the cloned fob alone is useless.
OBD port / ECU attack
Plug-in tools at the OBD port can program a fresh key in under a minute. A CAN bus immobiliser blocks ignition until the disarm sequence is entered, regardless of what's programmed.
Undetectable to thieves
No LED, no key fob receivers, no RF signal. Even when the vehicle is scanned with diagnostic tools, the immobiliser doesn't show up.
How it works
A CAN bus immobiliser, in plain English.
Every modern vehicle has a CAN bus, the internal network its ECUs talk over. An aftermarket CAN bus immobiliser quietly listens to that network and refuses to let the engine start until you authorise it, either by tapping a PIN sequence on the buttons you already have (Ghost-II) or by your phone being present over Bluetooth (Phantom CAN).
There's no relay, no signal to clone, no LED to spot and no key receiver to find. A thief with a relay box, a cloned fob or an OBD programmer can get in and program a key all they like, the car simply won't start.
Both systems include a Service / Valet mode so the car will start normally for an MOT, service or valet without giving away your PIN. Settings live in the immobiliser itself, no monthly fees, no subscription.

Ghost-II & Phantom CAN questions
Will this affect my manufacturer warranty?+
No. The Autowatch Ghost (Thatcham and TASSA verified) and Meta Trak Phantom CAN (Thatcham approved) are non-invasive CAN bus installs, no wires are cut and the system can be removed without trace if you sell the car. The CAN-Phantom is CE marked only.
Ghost or Phantom, which one should I pick?+
If you want a pure tactile experience, you set off, tap a PIN sequence on the buttons you already have, the Autowatch Ghost is the classic choice (Thatcham and TASSA verified, two models: Ghost-II and Ghost Pro). If you'd rather your phone disarm the car as you walk up, the Phantom CAN is better, it's Thatcham approved, app-based over Bluetooth with no SIM and no subscription. The CAN-Phantom is a CE marked alternative. All are CAN bus immobilisers that stop relay theft and key cloning. Call us and we'll talk through the right one for your car and how you use it.
How long does installation take?+
Typically 2-3 hours on site at your home or work, no need to leave the vehicle with us. We'll set your PIN sequence (or pair the Phantom app), show you Service / Valet Mode for garage visits, and run through everything before we leave.
Do I need a subscription?+
No. Both systems are one-off installs with no monthly fees. The Phantom CAN uses Bluetooth (no SIM card, nothing to renew). A tracker is a separate optional product if you want monitored recovery on top.
Will my insurer give me a discount?+
Many insurers, especially on prestige and high-theft-risk vehicles, will reduce premiums for a Thatcham approved or TASSA verified aftermarket immobiliser. We provide the correct certificate for the system fitted after install, then send it to your insurer to confirm.
